Watching Margiela and Schiarparelli fashion shows on the regular, constantly leaves me inspired to design. In this case, a story about a gorgeous mask worn to a ball thrown by the Gods. This mask had to be jeweled and needed to both reflect and outshine the others. What better way than to equip a mosaic mask illustration PAR created and mirror its panels with traced metallic colored acrylics, matched to the size, but not always the color, below. Mythical creatures flutter about, adorned to the mask as well as the mounted acrylics. Velvet straps have been cut, stitched and tailored from a fabric sheet and sewn to metal hardware that clips onto the mask as if to be tied by Gaia herself to conceal her identity. Lastly, what’s a mask or fascinator, without a feather. On the left side a peacock’s feather is attached to brass hardware and secured to one piece. The puzzle is nearly 3 feet in wingspan. This puzzle took 14 days to make and about 3 months to strategize and design to execute perfectly. Nothing like it anywhere in the world.
