An original 1976 Summer Olympics Poster printed in 1972 in Canada. The Games of the XXI Olympiad known as Montreal 1976 was held from 17 July - 1 August 1976 in Montreal Quebec Canada. The Olympic games were opened by Queen Elizabeth II with her daughter Princess Anne participating in an equestrian competition for the team from Great Britain. The work features an image of an antique statue set over the Montreal flag with a red heraldic cross, representing the Christian motives and principles which governed the founders of the city; a blue Fleur-de-lys, of the Royal House of Bourbon, representing the French; a red Rose of Lancaster, representing the English; a shamrock, representing the Irish; and a thistle, representing the Scottish.
Canada finished the games with five silver and six bronze medals, while the Soviet Union, East Germany and the United States ranked with the most gold medals. Artists: Raymond Bellamare and Pierre-Yves Pelletier
