Art by Richard Amsel, this lithograph was the original roadshow poster for Barbra Streisand’s “Hello Dolly”. The graphics and colors are stunning in-person. The paper quality is a soft gloss finish and posters are just not made this way anymore. Such a treat. You will notice this work was a tri-fold poster and so there’s be a trace of a line through the main graphic, but one that we feel is just part of its history and how these works were easily transported. This work was issued by the National Screen Service.
“Hello Dolly” was a costly production for 20th Century Fox. At the time it was made, it was the most expensive musical movie ever made. It’s tepid response for ticket sales at the box office actually set a precedent that big budget musicals were not worth the investment to studios during the 1970’s. Streisand was coming off her Oscar win the previous year, therefore expectations for the film were quite high. “Hello Dolly” would however become a rousing success on Broadway, where for 6 years, after 2,844 performances it was a mainstay for visitors to the big apple. The show has been revived 4 times over the next 40 years for new audiences to enjoy.
Original Size: 27”x41” (We however believe we will contain the puzzle design predominantly to the size of the main graphic, and remove most of the surrounding white production credits - this will remove the predominant fold you see towards the bottom and dimensions will be more like a 650-750pc puzzle)
