Like all PAR originals, your custom creation will come in an imageless box and with a “par time” specific to your puzzle. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of par time, it is a predetermined time-limit challenge for our puzzlers to prove they are “up to par.” As an impressively speedy puzzler, one of the PAR Puzzle founders, John Henriques, created the concept of par time and determined each by how long it took him to assemble newly cut puzzles.

The history of the company behind your custom PAR is like no other as well. PAR Puzzles found its beginnings in 1932 during the depths of the Great Depression when the founders John Henriques and Frank Ware started the company in response to the massive jigsaw puzzle craze that swept through the United States. At first, the two New Yorkers were both only interested in making puzzles to occupy their forced leisure time, but they knew relative merits of good puzzles on the market and decided to try their hand at making puzzles for more than just themselves. They experimented with different prints, papers, woods, and styles of cutting—testing a variety of saw blades and glues. In time, they developed their own rigid specifications and turned their hobby into a business of puzzle making that set a new interlocking and creative design standard. As the economy revived, many puzzle producers shut down and moved on to new endeavors, but PAR grew and flourished.
