While staring at this poster, a square of dots and branches amongst the sky, I almost debated titling this work: “What Do I Do With a square Damien Hirst Cherry Blossom Print?” It would have befit Hirst’s long titles of his art he’s been known to use in the past, but thought better of it :) Now, how can I allegedly add value to Hirst’s work and pay homage to a history of displaying things both living and not.
The inspiration behind the design came from a play on branches and organs. Trachea as trunk, soil as torso, roots as veins. Hirst has made some of the most arresting art from any angle you view it. The key here is to take the work both right side up, and upside down :) We’ve done our best to respect an edition as simplistic as Hirst’s Cherry Blossom’s with something dramatic like his work at the Lever house in 2008, “School: The Archaeology of Lost Desires, Comprehending Infinity, and the Search for Knowledge”. I told you his titles were long….rotate round and round to infinity….breathe in and breathe out.
